Tobacco Retailer Education

Countryside Public Health works hard to reduce youth access to commercial tobacco products in their communities and second hand smoke exposure. Through policy implementation and updates, tobacco and e-cigarette education, and tobacco compliance checks, we are helping to promote a tobacco free generation of Minnesotans.

Countryside Public Health conducts tobacco compliance checks in all five counties of our servicea area; Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Swift, and Yellow Medicine. Tobacco compliance checks are completed yearly at any facility or entity that sells tobacco products to individuals for personal consumption. Countryside Public Health conducts inspections that involve the use of a minor who attempts to purchase cigarettes, cigarette tobacco, roll your own tobacco, smokeless tobacco, or e-cigarettes to confirm that retailers are only selling to individuals of legal age.

If an inspector reports that a minor was able to enter the establishment and made a purchase during an inspection a violation may result in the following: advisory actions, administrative actions, or judicial actions.

If the tobacco licensee would like to partner with Countryside Public Health to complete Tobacco Compliance Checks in your area please contact us.
