School Health Services

Countryside Public Health’s role in the schools has transitioned in the last 10 years to a non-direct nursing service. The services are offered at no cost to the schools. The collaboration between public health and the schools can help all students and families reach their optimal health.

Topic Areas Include:
•    Handwashing
•    Dental Health
•    Puberty
•    Bike Safety
•    Poison Control
•    Mental/Emotional Health
•    Tobacco/Vaping Use
•    Nutrition

School Public Health Nurses (PHN) provide health education, screening, referral & follow-up, disease surveillance, counseling (1:1 and support groups), and advocating for healthcare access with community partners. A School PHN’s partnership with the school nurse, school counselor, and administration helps align health equality for all the students and families they serve.
