Given the high rates of childhood obesity and children's poor diets, many schools are reconsidering whether selling food that is low in quality nutrition is really the most appropriate way to raise money to support student activities. Though initially, it can be challenging to come up with strategies of how to raise money using healthy options, it is more than possible with strong school policies, creative ideas, and staff and parent commitment. Choosing healthy fundraising policy and practice sets a positive example by supporting healthy eating of children, nutrition education, and parent's efforts to feed their children healthy options, while still providing the needed fundraising for schools. So sell fruit instead of cupcakes! Have a jog-a-thon instead of cookie dough! There are so many options there, you just need to look!
