Extracurricular school sports are a mainstay for health and entertainment throughout Minnesota. Concessions at these events is also a lucrative means of bringing in funds for these important sports programs. But what is the message that concessions are giving to the community, families, siblings, younger students, and the athletes themselves? Are the spectators in the stands consuming pizza, nachos, and soda pop or are they consuming 100% juice, milk, fresh fruit, and veggie wraps? Are they at least given the opportunity to choose healthier options for a reasonable cost? Minnesotans like having options, including healthier options, so it is important for schools to set policies and procedures to ensure that the people get those options in their concession stands.
