Stress

Do you ever wish that all stress in your life would just go away? Well, although there are bad stresses, there are some types of stress that are actually considered good! Good stress can be very a good motivator to reach a goal. The problem comes in when the stressors in your life start to have negative effects on your body and mind.

So what are stressors? Stressors can be anything that causes a person stress, so they can be different for everyone. Here are some examples:
  • School
  • Tests
  • Work
  • Friends
  • Being sick
  • Deadlines
  • Athletics
  • Changes in families (divorce, separation, death of a loved one)
  • Planning for big events (graduation, weddings)
When your stress starts to last for a long time and occurs more frequently, it is called distress. This can lead to physical, mental and emotional problems. It’s very important to recognize the signs of stress and find ways to manage your stress to stay healthy.

Sings of Stress
  • Physical:
    • headaches
    • stomachaches
    • sweating
    • rashes
    • nervousness
    • fatigue
    • increased pulse
  • Mental
    • forgetfulness
    • unable to concentrate
    • easily distracted
    • decreased school performance
    • carelessness
  • Emotional
    • depression
    • withdrawal
    • irritation
    • anger
    • boredom
    • fear


Stress management
  • Take a deep breath; count to 10, repeat as many times as needed
  • Take time for yourself
  • Talk with a trusted adult or counselor about your stressors
  • Talk with friends
  • Eat healthy and exercise every day
  • Be prepared, allow adequate time to prepare for tests or upcoming events
  • Take a 5-10 minute stretch break
  • Punch or scream into a pillow
  • Be proud of your accomplishments, don’t focus on previous mistakes
  • Set realistic goals
  • Do not take on more than you have time for, it’s okay to say no
  • Try not to worry about things that may not happen
  • Pray
  • Make sure to take time out to do something FUN with friends and/or family
