Learn the signs of pre-term labor

About 12 percent of births (1 in 8) in the United States are preterm. Babies who are born preterm are at higher risk of needing hospitalization, having long-term health problems and of dying than babies born at the right time. Safety Tips
Preparing the Nursery

Every new mother wants to keep her little one safe. Be sure to childproof the house. Encourage everyone who will be around the baby to stop smoking. You may be able to use gently used furniture or equipment. Cribs should have slates placed only 2 3/8 inches apart. Some equipment that was used in the past has been judged as hazardous and you should not use mobile baby walkers or swings that hang from door frames. For other information on needed supplies and safety and recall information, visit these sites:

Car Seats

You should also plan to get an approved car seat. The convertible seats are a good approach as they can also be used as your child grows. Reliable information can be found at this site: http://www.carseatsmadesimple.org Your insurance may provide vouchers for car seats, so contact them before you purchase a car seat. Countryside Public health has trained car seat technicians to help you place the car seat correctly. Call or email us for more information or an appointment to check out your car seat.
